Tweet-New Haven Airport Investments
Avelo is investing USD 1.2 million to help upgrade and modernize facilities and operations as part of a total USD 100 million project at HVN. The airport expansion will include a new terminal and extended runway spearheaded by airport operator Avports.
Avelo has hired 109 crew members based at HVN, including flight attendants, pilots, airport customer service representatives, operations-related roles, as well as managers and supervisors. The airline plans to hire at least 100 additional HVN-based crew members by the end of 2022, expanding the team at the airport to more than 200 crew members.
Avelo’s growth plans for 2022
The company began operations in April 2021, using Burbank (BUR), California as its base, and has since been focused on serving cities and routes that other carriers do not operate. The eleven East Coast links join the West Coast, which has fifteen routes to eleven destinations from Burbank and Las Vegas and are served by three Boeing 737-800s.
Avelo has committed to adding nine additional 737 NGs in 2022. Several of those aircraft will be added to Avelo’s East Coast operation. The airline plans to more than double its domestic network from 18 to at least 40 destinations by the end of this year. Many of those new destinations will be served by Avelo’s HVN base.
