On February 21, eight flights from overseas will be landing in Australian territory with foreign tourists, which implies the reopening of the oceanic country to tourism after almost two years of strict closure.

Flight QF12 arrived at 6:20 am Sydney time, where three other services will arrive from Vancouver, London, and Singapore. Melbourne will receive its first flight at 10:05 am from Phuket and flight QF70 will arrive at the same terminal at 1:35 pm.

“We look forward to welcoming visitors to Australia once again. The thousands of tourists arriving this week and those arriving in the coming months will help restart the tourism industry, which has struggled badly over the last couple of years,” said Alan Joyce, CEO of Qantas.

Fourteen thousand tourists are expected in this first week of operations, and ten flagship Qantas Group flights will be restarted during March:

Melbourne to Honolulu (Jetstar) – Starting March 1.
Sydney to Honolulu (Jetstar) – Starting March 3
Melbourne to Denpasar (Jetstar) – Starting March 14
Sydney to Denpasar (Jetstar) – Starting March 15
Brisbane to Singapore – Starting March 27th
Sydney to Manila – Starting March 27th
Sydney to Denpasar – Starting March 28th
Darwin to Dili – Starting March 30
Brisbane to Los Angeles – Starting April 1

“We are in this good position today because of the millions of Australians who rolled up their sleeves to give themselves the vaccine and give the Australian Government the confidence that we can safely reopen to the world,” Joyce added.

“People are keen to return to Australia, and we as well continue to see strong bookings from the U.S. and U.K., and also from South Africa and Canada,” he concluded.
