The Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (DFW) social media account announced that Qantas’ second route at the airfield will begin operations on December 2, 2022, with four weekly flights to Melbourne (MEL).
Flight Itinerary
- Melbourne – Dallas Flight QF21 MEL 14:00 – DFW 12:45
- Dallas – Melbourne Flight QF22 DFW 19:10 – MEL 05:45+
Flights will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

This new service will be operated by the modern Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with a capacity of 236 seats in three classes (42 Business/28 Premium Economy/166 Economy). On February 16, the Australian flag carrier restarted the route between Sydney (SYD) and Dallas (DFW).
Melbourne (DFW) and Dallas (DFW) becomes the carrier’s second longest flight with a distance of 8,992 miles, right behind its flagship Perth (PER) – London Heathrow (LHR) service with 9,009 miles.
As reported by the Dallas Business Journal, in 2016 Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (DFW) was offering incentives to airlines for new international routes, seeking connections to Berlin, Dublin, Helsinki, Munich, Rome, Addis Ababa, Auckland, Johannesburg, Melbourne, Nagoya and Nairobi, among other destinations.
Qantas has a transpacific Joint Venture with American Airlines, and Dallas (DFW) is the main mega hub for the American airline, as a large part of Qantas travelers use it for connections to business destinations such as Chicago and New York or leisure destinations such as Orlando or Miami.
According to data compiled by Aviacionline through the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development 232,570 passengers were mobilized between Dallas and Australia with an occupancy factor of 81.7% between June 2018 and June 2019.
Qantas gradually continues to build its network in the United States, its most important intercontinental market. The company expects to reestablish its routes between Brisbane (BNE) – Los Angeles (LAX) and Sydney (SYD) – San Francisco (SFO) during the summer season, and is also contemplating new destinations.
