Star Alliance members United Airlines and Singapore Airlines have agreed to strengthen their business relationship and expand their codeshare agreements. In doing so, they will increase their offering of connections in the United States, Southeast Asia, and the Asia-Pacific region. The new agreement includes nineteen new destinations available for customers of both companies.
The announcement comes against a backdrop of growing demand for international air travel as more countries around the world ease border restrictions.
United customers will have access to seven new destinations in Southeast Asia: Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Penang (Malaysia), Denpasar (Indonesia), Jakarta (Indonesia) and Surabaya (Indonesia). Connections to Perth (Australia) and Malé (Maldives) will be available as well.
“United continues to provide critical links to Asia and we are the only US airline flying direct to Singapore from the US, with our nonstop San Francisco – Singapore flight” said Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President of International Network and Alliances.
On the other hand, Singapore customers can now connect to ten new destinations in the United States from Los Angeles. These include Austin, Baltimore, Boise, Cleveland, Cleveland, Denver, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Reno and Sacramento. The new connections complement existing ones on United’s network from Houston: Atlanta, Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, New Orleans, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa.
“The expansion of the codeshare arrangement will provide both Singapore Airlines and United customers with a greater array of choices and connections”, said JoAnn Tan, Senior Vice President Marketing Planning at Singapore’s flag carrier. She also noted that the agreement will help strengthen ties between the two countries.
Subject to regulatory approvals, the codeshare flights will be progressively available for sale through the two airlines’ respective booking channels.
