Ryanair announces winter maintenance agreement with STS Aviation Group

Earlier today, Ryanair announced a new agreement with STS Aviation Group, a UK-based provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul services (MRO). The contract calls for the Irish low-cost airline to perform two lines of heavy maintenance at the supplier’s Birmingham facility over the coming winters.

Ryanair plans to increase its fleet to more than 600 operational aircraft over the next few years. Thanks the agreement, will ensure the availability and flexibility necessary to meet the scheduled overhaul requirements of each aircraft.

Currently, the company uses a combination of its own facilities and external suppliers for this type of work. While working to increase its own MRO capability, STS Aviation Group will supplement it to avoid delays in the stipulated processes.

Neal McMahon, Ryanair’s Director of Operations, said: «Our five-year growth plan will grow our fleet to over 600 aircraft and we are pleased to announce this agreement with STS Aviation to conduct maintenance at their modern MRO facility in Birmingham this winter». He also noted that the agreement «will allow Ryanair to utilize 2 heavy maintenance slots» during the season.

For his part, Ian Bartholomew, Senior Vice President of Business Development Europe at STS Aviation Services, stated: «This contract win is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of our entire team, and we look forward to receiving the first aircraft later this year while expanding the relationship and supporting the long-term growth of such a prestigious customer».

Ryanair had previously announced another agreement for heavy winter maintenance work with Caerdav. According to the airline, it secured a further two heavy maintenance lines at the supplier’s facility in Cardiff, Wales.
