On June 1 SATA Azores Airlines inaugurated its flights between Ponta Delgada (PDL) and Barcelona (BCN) with two weekly flights. Flight S4 506 was operated with an Airbus A321 aircraft registered with the registration CS-TSJ, which took off from PDL at 08:20 local time and landed at Josep Tarradellas Airport at 13:25.

This new service will be the only non-stop link between the Catalan capital and the Azores Islands, thus reinforcing the connectivity between the two, the company will have an offer of 372 seats per week. By 2023 the airline plans to increase the route from two to three weekly flights, with an extra service on Sundays.

Flight Itinerary

  • Ponta Delgada – Barcelona Flight S4 506 PDL 08:20 – BCN 13:35 Wednesday and Friday.
  • Barcelona – Ponta Delgada Flight S4 507 BCN 14:30 – PDL 16:10 Wednesday and Friday.

The flights will be operated in Airbus A321neo aircraft with 186 seats in two classes (16 Business Class/174 Economy), the promotional fares are from 245 euros each way. This new service will be seasonal and will be available until September 30, 2022.

Data compiled by Aviacionline through Aena Statistics indicate that for the first quarter of this year between El Prat Airport (BCN) and Portugal 359,568 passengers and 183.9 tons of cargo were mobilized in 2,958 air operations.

Thanks to its geographical position on the Atlantic Ocean, Ponta Delgada (PDL) is an excellent option for passengers to connect with the North American network of SATA Azores Airlines which includes routes such as: New York (JFK), Boston (BOS) and Toronto (YYZ), most of these destinations are quite popular among Catalan travelers.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, for the 2022 boreal summer season, SATA Azores Airlines will have an offer of 5,580 seats per week between Ponta Delgada (PDL) with the United States and Canada.
