The Spanish airline Wamos Air, formerly Pullmantur Air, announced that it will “consolidate its position” as a company specialized in charter flights, cargo, and wet lease (the provision of a service by a company that lends its aircraft and crews on routes whose rights and commercialization are the responsibility of another).
In this regard, the company announced that it had reached an agreement whereby Iberojet will operate its routes to Cancún (CUN) and Punta Cana (PUJ) as from June 18th. “The aforementioned commitment has been signed in adaptation of both companies to the current market circumstances, after the situation generated by the pandemic and by virtue of consolidating Wamos Air as a leader in its segment”, they assured.
Enrique Saiz, CEO of Wamos Air, said: “This step represents an important advance in our firm strategy to continue strengthening the wet lease and cargo business lines, and thus consolidate our position in these markets”.
On the other hand, the executive also highlighted the gradual increase in operations observed in recent months and assured that they intend to continue to be “a benchmark” in the segment.
Both airlines are part of tourism groups, specializing in leisure travel markets. The leasing of aircraft, crew, insurance, and maintenance for the two routes to the Caribbean will allow both airlines to benefit during the summer season, one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.
Wamos Air is Spain’s third largest airline in terms of long-haul operations, behind Iberia and Air Europa. According to the company, it has the capacity to carry up to three million passengers a year. It operated Boeing 747-400 aircraft until 2020, when the four-engine aircraft began to be retired from the fleet. It currently has four Airbus A330-200s and five Airbus A330-300s.
