American Airlines resumes flights between Raleigh and London

This Friday (June 3), American Airlines resumed flights between Raleigh – Durham (RDU) and London Heathrow (LHR), after a 27-month absence. Flight AA 174 took off from RDU at 19:16 local time bound for the British capital; the company’s last operation was in March 2020.

In 1994, American began transatlantic operations from Raleigh, since then it has become the most popular European nonstop service for travelers in the Research Triangle metropolitan area.

Flight Itinerary

  • Flight AA 174 Raleigh Durham (RDU) 19:20 – London Heathrow (LHR) 08:00+1 flights daily.
  • Flight AA 173 London Heathrow (LHR) 10:05 – Raleigh (RDU) 13:45 daily flights.

Air operations will be conducted on Boeing 777-200ER aircraft with a capacity of 273 seats (37 Business Class/ 24 Premium Economy / 66 Main Cabin Extra/ 146 Economy). The company will be the largest transatlantic operator at Raleigh Airport (RDU).

Data compiled by Aviacionline through Civil Aviation Authority UK (CAA) indicate that in 2019 between London Heathrow (LHR) and Raleigh – Durham (RDU) 143,348 passengers were mobilized.

American’s strong presence in the British capital

During the peak summer season, American will have a total of 23 daily flights to London Heathrow (LHR) offering 93,254 seats per week, the largest long-haul destination in the airline’s entire network, where travelers will have the option to connect to multiple destinations in Europe, the Middle East and India through the airline’s Oneworld partners.
