Starting in 2024, Air New Zealand will completely renew the cabins of its long-haul aircraft, with the aim of improving the customer experience during intercontinental travel, the company will soon receive 8 Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the existing units will have these new products,
All Boeing 787 Dreamliners in the airline’s fleet will have upgraded cabins with the following configurations: 4 – 8 Business Premier Luxe, 42 – 22 Business Premier, 52 or 33 Premium Economy and 153 or 213 in Economy and six aircraft used for ultra-long-haul flights (New York, Houston, Chicago) will have a new Economy Skynest product.
The New Zealand airline has designed these new cabins with a focus on its customers’ needs for intercontinental flights, placing importance on the need for more comfort and space, as well as offering customers an innovative travel experience.
«New Zealand’s location puts us in a unique position to lead the ultra-long-haul travel experience. We have focused on sleep, comfort, and wellness because we know how important it is for our customers to arrive well-rested. Whether they’re heading straight to a meeting or to their first vacation hotspot: they want to get to work,» said Greg Foran, Air New Zealand’s Chief Executive Officer.
For its Economy customers the company has designed a new «Skynest» concept announced for the first time in 2020, a world first.
«We wanted to offer our Economy customers a flat-bed option and Skynest was born. It’s going to be a real game changer for the Economy travel experience,» Foran added.
Sustainability has played a key role in the design process. The use of modern fabrics instead of leather will reduce around one kilogram of weight per seat in Business Premier and Premium Economy, reducing overall carbon emissions.
In Premium cabins, service items will be 20% lighter and Economy will reduce the number of plastic plates used, which will help to further reduce carbon emissions.
