Latvian airline airBaltic announced today that it will fly between Riga International Airport (RIX) and Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) as of November 1st.

This way, Las Palmas will become the airline’s second destination in the Canary Islands. It currently operates out of Tenerife South-Reina Sofía International Airport (TFS).

The company will offer two weekly frequencies in both directions, on Tuesdays and Fridays. The operations will be carried out with Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with a 5-seat configuration in Business Class and 140 seats in Economy Class. Flights will last approximately 6 hours and 40 minutes.

«We are delighted to expand our offering for the upcoming winter season», said Martin Gauss, CEO of the company. He also welcomed the opening of a new route to the Canary Islands and emphasized that the service to Tenerife, launched in 2021, «has demonstrated outstanding passenger results».

As of the inauguration of the flights to Gran Canaria, airBaltic will offer direct connections between Latvia and six airports in Spain: in addition to the aforementioned frequencies in the archipelago, it operates regularly at Madrid-Barajas (MAD), Barcelona-El Prat (BCN), Valencia (VLC), Málaga (AGP) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI).
