On the morning of July 25, exactly at 10:07 am, took off from RAF Waddington the ZH103, the first Boeing E-3D Sentry that the Chilean Air Force will incorporate to its service, replacing the mythical EB-707 Condor.
The Early Warning aircraft served in the Royal Air Force for 36 years, having received the first of seven E-3Ds – called Sentry AEW1 Mk1s – in December 1986. The agreement with the FACh includes three units, of which two will be in active service and the third will serve as a source of spares.
It had arrived at Waddington on July 15 in Boeing 767-3YOER registration 985 Chilean Air Force personnel, two days after the last flight of the ZH103 as an active element of the RAF fleet.
