At the beginning of August, it was announced that Avianca Group began to reduce its operations due to a combination of macroeconomic factors in Latin America and the Caribbean that resulted in a drop in future bookings, despite the fact that the region was one of those that has shown the best recovery rates after the pandemic.
According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Cirium, between August 30 and October 31, Avianca will reduce 11.8% of its operations throughout the group. In the Colombian international market the figure is -14.5% and in the domestic market -7.5%.
Destinations to the United States will be the most affected, losing 37% of their frequencies in the coming weeks.

Now, Aerocivil informed that six routes from Colombia to the United States and one domestic route will be suspended as of September 1:
- Medellín/Rionegro (MDE) to Miami (MIA), New York (JFK) and Orlando (MCO).
- Miami (MIA) to Barranquilla (BAQ) Cartagena (CTG) and Cali (CLO).
- Bucaramanga (BGA) to Cartagena (CTG).
The company announced that the reduction will be temporary, and that passengers are being relocated through its main bases and partners.
According to the press release, flights from Miami to Cali and Barranquilla will return on December 8, as well as the connection from Bucaramanga to Cartagena. On October 30, links from Medellin to Miami and New York will return.
While links from Cartagena to Miami and Medellin to Orlando will return on December 8, but only in summer and winter high season.
