German carrier Eurowings Discover, part of Lufthansa Group, has confirmed changes to its management team. Bernd Bauer will take over as the company’s new CEO as of 1 October and will also retain his current position as CEO of Edelweiss, the other leisure airline in the group.

In addition, Wolfgang Raebiger will become the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Accountable Manager. Helmut Woelfel will remain as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). At Edelweiss, David Birrer will retain his position as Chief Operating Officer, while Patrick Heymann will continue to work as Chief Commercial Officer.

In this way, both brands will expand and strengthen their management team with the aim of maintaining their independence and increasing their service offerings in the most popular tourist destinations for German and Swiss citizens. Currently, the two of them focus their operations on short, medium and long-haul leisure markets. They complement the offer of the group’s other airlines in each one’s main hubs.

Edelweiss has a long-established track record (it started commercial operations in 1996) and is the leading Swiss holiday airline operator. Eurowings Discover, which was designed along the same lines, is still taking its first steps in this market: the airline was launched in July 2021 with services from Frankfurt Airport to Mombasa and Zanzibar.

The new airline has good prospects for growth in the near future. It currently has a fleet of Airbus A320, A330-200 and A330-300 aircraft. All of them come from the fleets of other Lufthansa Group airlines.
