Orlando International Airport’s Terminal C begins operations

This Tuesday (20), Orlando International Airport’s (MCO) Terminal C began operations. This new facility encompasses 300 acres and 15 gates with the capacity to accommodate 20 aircraft, including narrowbody and widebody jets.

The first service from Terminal C was Flight EG 935 by Aer Lingus UK operated in an Airbus A330-300 registered under the registration number G-EILA, the aircraft took off from Manchester Airport (MAN) at 11:41 local time and landed at Orlando International Airport (MCO) at 15:18. The flight lasted 8 hours and 37 minutes and was the first transatlantic connection at the new facility.

«We strive to use state-of-the-art technology and best practices in everything we do,» said Kevin Thibault, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. «Above all, we seek to recognize the diverse types of passengers who use our airport,» Thibault added.

On the same day, GOL Linhas Aéreas also began operations at Terminal C, Flight G3 7602 was operated on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 registered with the registration PR-XMQ, the aircraft took off from Brasilia Airport (BSB) at 10:21 local time and landed at MCO at 17:11, this was the first South American service from the new facility.

Terminal C offers new technological and innovative features including:

  • Carry-on baggage handling system with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for efficient tracking and expedited delivery of checked baggage.
  • Early Bag Storage robotic system with capacity for 1800 bags: MCO is the only airport in the world to implement the complete system.
  • TSA security screening lanes with an automated container return system.
  • Virtual ramp control system for airline aircraft operations.
  • Large-scale interactive digital media displays will provide immersive, high-definition visual experiences.
  • Designed as the first LEEDv4 airport campus in the world.

According to data obtained pro Aviacionline through MCO statistics 40,351,069 passengers were mobilized in 2021 at Orlando International Airport, this represents a 79.72% recovery from 2019 levels. MCO is the main airport in Florida and the opening of Terminal C, aims to continue increasing capacity and connectivity at MCO.
