Delta to fly between New York and Geneva

Delta will have a new year-round route between New York (JFK) and Geneva (GVA) as of April 10, 2023, the carrier’s second destination in Switzerland, complementing its daily services to Zurich (ZRH). The airline’s last operation to GVA via ZRH was in 1993 with flights operated on Airbus A310-300s.

According to data compiled by Aviacionline via Cirium, Delta will have a capacity of 6,664 seats per week between the U.S. and Switzerland for the 2023 boreal summer season, this represents a 6% increase with compared to the same period in 2019. The Atlanta-based carrier will become the third North American carrier to offer transatlantic services in Geneva.

«This Delta route is welcome and proof of Geneva airport’s attractiveness for intercontinental flights. It adds a complementary offer to the existing routes to/from Geneva and brings a new player offering quality service in a very dynamic market,» said André Schneider, CEO of Geneva Airport (GVA).

According to data obtained by Aviacionline from Geneva Airport (GVA) statistics, 229,227 passengers flew between GVA and New York, this segment being Geneva’s main transatlantic market. Delta will soon be competing with SWISS and United in this sector.

This northern summer season, Geneva (GVA) reestablished its four pre-pandemic transatlantic services and has recorded an average occupancy rate of over 90%. With Delta’s new Swiss service, the airline is looking to attract some of the diplomatic, business and premium leisure passenger traffic.

In addition, the Atlanta-based airline’s entry is lucrative for the cargo industry, diversifying the capacity offered in the sector. The United States is currently the largest import and export market for airfreight trade.

This offering, which can be used for freight, will be beneficial for Geneva and certain sectors of the French-speaking industry, while avoiding unnecessary and costly transports through other logistics platforms.
