Since the beginning of November, United Airlines has been offering kids’ meals on board again. In addition, the service will be available on more eligible flights and cabins from 2023, the airline said.
Like many other operators, the carrier reduced its in-flight food and beverage offerings (including children’s menus) during the initial months of the pandemic.
However, in-flight services began to be restored with the gradual return to normal operations. While other US airlines had already reintroduced special services for children in recent months, this was not yet the case for the Chicago-based airline.
«We are committed to providing a great onboard experience for all of our customers, and we’re thrilled to be able to offer our youngest flyers new, kid-friendly food options on select routes», said Aaron McMillan, managing director of Hospitality and Planning at United Airlines.
Children’s menus are currently offered on board flights over 2.000 miles (some 3.200 kilometres), in cabins that include complimentary food and beverage service. The service includes French toast with sausage, fruit and a bakery item for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, the menu includes chicken tenders with fruit, bread and a dessert. In addition, on longer international flights, the company also offers a grilled cheese sandwich.
To request it, customers must select the «Children’s Special Meals» option when booking a ticket or add a request to an existing reservation via the company’s mobile app before starting their trip.
