Flydubai operated a total of 1.290 flights between Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) and Doha International Airport (DIA) during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Between 21 November and 19 December 2022, the low-cost carrier transported more than 130.000 fans.

According to the company in a press release, passengers of 171 different nationalities used the Match Day Shuttle, an option that facilitated the transfer on the day for people who could not or did not wish to stay in Qatar. For this, having tickets was a prerequisite.

According to Flydubai, nationals from the United Kingdom, India, United Arab Emirates, France, Argentina, United States, Morocco, Jordan, Canada and Brazil accounted for 60% of all passengers.

World Cup shuttle: thirty daily flights

The airline operated an average of thirty flights per day between the two airports with seven of its 174-seats Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline applied special non-refundable fares that did not include free checked baggage allowance, so travellers had to carry everything they needed in their hand luggage.

“We are very pleased that the special Match Day Shuttle service operations to Doha were a great success thanks to the support of the authorities in Qatar and all the stakeholders in Dubai”, said Ghaith Al Ghaith, Flydubai’s CEO.

“Never before has there been up to thirty daily return flights between two countries in the region and this shows the high level of commitment, efficiency and collaborative approach required to successfully deliver this task”, he stressed.
