Avianca Ecuador has applied to the Dirección General de Aviación Civil (DGAC) to add scheduled passenger, cargo and mail services to Venezuela and to modify its operations to the United States.
Venezuela
The airline is requesting to operate the Quito (UIO) and/or Guayaquil (GYE) – Caracas (CCS) route and vice versa up to seven weekly operations and 3rd and 4th freedom rights. If this service materializes, it would be the first service of the Ecuadorian subsidiary to Venezuela.
According to data compiled by Aviacionline through the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), 16,910 passengers were mobilized between Caracas (CCS) and Ecuador.
In the course of 2021 and 2022, Conviasa operated several charter flights from the Venezuelan capital and Porlamar (PMV) to Quito (UIO) and Guayaquil (GYE), currently there are no non-stop operations between Ecuador and Venezuela.
United States
The company modifies its request on the route Quito (UIO) and/or Guayaquil (GYE) – New York and vice versa up to 14 weekly operations and 3rd and 4th release rights. The last non-stop operation between the Ecuadorian capital and the Big Apple was on January 31, 2019 with a service operated by the extinct TAME in Airbus A330.
According to data obtained through INEC, 166,780 passengers and 4,201 tons of cargo were mobilized in 2019 between New York and Ecuador. The Big Apple is the third most important market in the United States for the South American nation, only behind Miami (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
Currently, Avianca Ecuador and JetBlue are the only airlines operating between Guayaquil (GYE) and New York (JFK), offering a total of 13 weekly flights and 4,240 seats per week.
Avianca Ecuador’s international growth
In 2022, Avianca Ecuador inaugurated its non-stop flights to the Big Apple with six weekly flights on Airbus A319, complementing its operations to Bogota (BOG) and Lima (LIM). For the start of the summer season, the airline is adding new routes to Cartagena (CTG) and Medellín (MDE) to its network.
The company’s other subsidiaries offer international services in Ecuador to the Colombian capital, San Salvador (SAL), San José de Costa Rica (SJO) and Buenos Aires (EZE).
