Panama: Tocumen International Airport Implements Electric Cart Regulations for Improved Safety

The Board of Directors of the Tocumen International Airport has recently approved the implementation of regulations to control the use of electric carts in terminals 1 and 2.

The implementation of these rules aims primarily to ensure comprehensive safety within the airport terminals, thus preventing potential accidents or damage to private property. Strict adherence to these regulations is crucial to maintain the high quality standards that characterize the Tocumen International Airport.

The use of electric carts will be limited to staff from the concessionaires and government entities that are part of the airport operations. Both aeronautical and commercial concessionaires, as well as public institutions requiring the use of these vehicles within the passenger terminals, must submit a written request to the Passenger Service Management, specifying the name of each authorized driver.

Each vehicle circulating within the terminals must be covered by a civil liability insurance policy, making the owner responsible in case of incidents affecting private property, pedestrians, or crews. This exempts Tocumen S.A. from any liability and expense related to possible accidents.

As for the drivers of the vehicles, they will be required to meet a set of requirements. These include having a special permit granted by Tocumen S.A., a valid driving license issued by the National Transit Authority, a toxicology analysis demonstrating they do not consume drugs, eye tests, and a certificate issued by Tocumen Airport accrediting the satisfactory approval of theoretical and practical tests on basic knowledge for driving electric carts.
