Boeing and Joramco have taken a significant step forward in the aviation industry, announcing an agreement to establish a new Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) line in Amman, Jordan. This collaboration sets Joramco as the pioneering MRO supplier in the Middle East, facilitating both domestic and international Boeing freighter conversions.
Joramco’s Strategic Position
Strategically located in Amman, Joramco is ideally positioned to support upcoming 737-800BCF customers from regions including the Middle East, Europe, North Africa, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Fraser Currie, CEO of Joramco, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the partnership.
“We’re very excited to grow our relationship with Boeing. The new 737-800BCF capability we’re bringing to our MRO is another major milestone for Joramco, and we are delighted Boeing has selected Joramco as a future site for the 737-800BCF. Our geographic location in Amman, our deep MRO experience, and the opportunity to work together with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise on their customers’ requirements makes this a very exciting opportunity”, Currie said.
Dubai Aerospace Enterprise Connection
Joramco, a subsidiary of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), has a leasing division overseeing a fleet of about 550 aircraft, leased to nearly 120 airlines across over 60 nations. DAE’s CEO, Firoz Tarapore, emphasized the significance of this announcement for their division stating “Today’s announcement reaffirms our long-term commitment to our DAE Engineering division. Since acquiring Joramco in 2016, revenues have more than doubled, and we continue to expand our presence at our Amman, Jordan based facility, which is expected to reach 22 maintenance lines by the end of 2024. This latest agreement underpins our commitment, and we look forward to continuing to deepen our relationship with Boeing as well as developing new product offerings for Joramco’s global customer base”.
Aligning with Customer Proximity
Boeing’s intent is evident in its efforts to be closer to its customers, with Mike Doellefeld, Boeing Commercial Programs Vice President of Engineering Services, Converted Freighters, and Sub-Components noting, “Connecting with Joramco reflects the potential of a growing region combined with an MRO capable of producing the BCF with the quality our customers expect”.
Booming Global Freighter Market
Anticipating a significant surge in the global freighter fleet, Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook predicts an increase of 65%, reaching over 3,700 by 2042. Such growth necessitates over 2,800 production and converted freighter deliveries in the coming twenty years, encompassing about 1,300 standard-body freighter conversions, such as the 737-800BCF.
