Spirit Airlines Resumes Seven Services and Launches Four New Routes from Tampa

Spirit Airlines is bolstering its operations from Tampa International Airport (TPA) for the fall with a schedule of four new routes and the resumption of seven other seasonal destinations.

From October through November, Spirit will fly for the first time from Tampa to Charlotte, Norfolk, Richmond and Charleston, South Carolina. The ultra low-cost carrier will compete in these markets with Silver Airways, American Airlines and Breeze Airways.

«Our friends at Spirit recently celebrated their 30th anniversary at TPA with us, and we are thrilled to see this ultra low-cost carrier now adding so many fantastic destinations,» said Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport.

Spirit is scheduled to resume service to Boston, Dallas/Fort Worth and Indianapolis beginning in October, with service to Houston-Intercontinental, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Columbus (Ohio) resuming in November. The company will have to compete in these markets with American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta, Frontier, United, Breeze and Southwest.

The ultra low-cost carrier will be adding 23,660 additional weekly seats to its winter schedule to and from Tampa. Florida is one of the most popular vacation markets in the United States, and in recent months airlines such as American, Frontier, Southwest and Breeze have strengthened their operations in the Sunshine State to offer customers more travel alternatives.

In total, Spirit for the winter season will provide an offering of 66,462 weekly seats to and from Tampa, this represents an 8.3% increase in seat capacity compared to 2019 levels.

«Our Tampa guests have embraced Spirit’s low-fare, high-value service for the past three decades, which has allowed us to grow and bring More Go to incredible destinations, including these four new flights and other resuming routes,» said John Kirby, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning.

With the addition of all the additional routes beginning in November, Spirit will fly to 21 cities from Tampa. This will make the ultra low-cost carrier the second largest carrier with the most nonstop destinations to and from Tampa after Southwest, which is scheduled to fly to 38 destinations in November.
