Aena, the operator of Spanish airports, has announced plans to carry out an expansion and renovation of the Córdoba Airport terminal in Andalucía. According to the company, this project will double the current building’s size and enhance the provision of resources across various systems.
The project builds upon the modernization efforts already undertaken in the terminal. Once the construction contract is awarded, the estimated completion time for the project will be approximately one year. Contract’s total cost is 2.3 million euros. The project involves the construction of a new building, which will be attached to and connected with the existing terminal on the north side. The resulting building will have over 1,000 square meters, effectively doubling the current floor space.

The construction work includes all aspects of a new building, including the structure, architecture, and installations. Notably, it will be executed using modular construction, an innovative approach that delivers the same quality levels as traditional construction while significantly reducing both construction timelines and environmental impact, thanks to a substantial decrease in waste generation.
Refurbishment work will also be carried out in key functional areas. Both the departure lounge and baggage collection area will each have over 350 square meters of space. The departure hall, on the other hand, will cover 100 square meters. This expansion aims to accommodate the growing interest of airlines in operating at Córdoba.
Efforts will also focus on enhancing the provision of resources across different areas of the airport. Among other improvements, an additional check-in counter (increasing the total to three) and an extra X-ray screening machine (bringing the total to two) will be added to the security checkpoint. Additionally, two automated boarding pass readers will be installed.
The expansion project also includes the enhancement of all facades, the renewal of sidewalks, and the improvement of road access.
