Lufthansa Technik Malta (LTM) will expand its service portfolio and work on a greater number of wide-body aircraft. The company, which recently celebrated its twentieth anniversary, is acquiring the necessary tools and materials to provide maintenance for Boeing 787 aircraft.
LTM was founded in 2002 as a joint venture between Lufthansa Technik and Air Malta. It is located at Malta International Airport and offers maintenance services for Airbus A320 and A320neo, A330, A340, and A350. It employs approximately 500 technicians and serves clients from various regions.

The company stated that the required investment amounts to several million euros, primarily focusing on technician training and tool acquisition. The company expects the first aircraft to arrive at its facilities in the spring of 2024. Regarding this, Maria Cilia, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Malta, expressed her thoughts. «It is a pleasure to start my tenure as the new CEO of Lufthansa Technik Malta with such a significant endeavor,» stated the executive. «Expanding our portfolio will allow us to strengthen our presence in the Maltese community and create new job opportunities,» she added.
On a similar note, Alexander Feuersaenger, Vice President and COO of Lufthansa Technik Maintenance Services, emphasized, «Lufthansa Technik Malta has played a crucial role in our maintenance network over the past two decades, making our investment in improving its capabilities, including a dedicated Boeing 787 line, logical, and we believe it will further solidify the company’s position. This development will provide us with greater flexibility to meet our clients’ needs.»
LTM was the first location to host the Lufthansa Technik Innovation Bay. There, new technologies are being tested, such as fuselage inspections using drones or the use of mobile 3D scanners.
