Elbe Flugzeugwerke, known as EFW, the aircraft passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversion center of Airbus, has officially commenced its operations at its new facility in Istanbul, Turkey.

EFW’s expansion to Istanbul is being carried out in collaboration with Turkish Technic, the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) subsidiary of Turkish Airlines. With the addition of this facility in Istanbul, EFW now boasts a total of nine modification facilities worldwide, all dedicated to their conversion programs.

EFW, a joint venture of ST Engineering and Airbus, is involved in various activities, including the development and manufacturing of components for aircraft structures and interiors across the Airbus family, passenger aircraft conversion, and the maintenance and repair of Airbus aircraft. With over two decades of experience and more than 40 customers worldwide, they employ over 2,000 people.

Jordi Boto, CEO of EFW, stated, “Through partnerships with companies renowned for their structural expertise and operational excellence, we are committed to ensuring that we effectively fulfill our obligations. We welcome Turkish Technic to our program, and hope to collaborate with them for years to come”.

To meet the growing demand for freighter conversions, ST Engineering and EFW have established conversion facilities in Asia, the United States, and Europe, significantly increasing the conversion capacity of all their programs.

The facility in Istanbul will immediately begin work on the conversion of aircraft under the A330P2F program. EFW’s A330P2F program offers two variants: the A330-200P2F and the A330-300P2F. The former can carry a gross payload of up to 61 tons over distances of more than 7,700 km. Meanwhile, the larger A330-300P2F can accommodate a gross payload of up to 63 tons and a volume of approximately 18,581 cubic feet (526 cubic meters).
