Air India performed the first commercial operation of its Airbus A350-900, initially to be used on domestic routes for crew training, but soon the aircraft will be used on long-haul international flights. The model was presented at the India Wings 2024 airshow, held in Hyderabad.
The A350 registered as VT-JRA took off from Kempegowda International Airport at 07:30 and landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 08:59 after one hour and 28 minutes.
Air India’s entry of Airbus A350s will benefit it to consolidate in the market, the new aircraft will have a Business Class seat designed by Collins Aerospace Horizon Premier, a private suite with sliding doors and direct aisle access, and will also offer new products in Premium Economy and Economy.
Air India received its A350s early because the planes were destined for Aeroflot. As a result of the Ukraine war restrictions, the carrier was not able to receive the units and they were subsequently released. The aircraft plans to add another 19 A350-900s and 20 Airbus A350-1000s.
In 2023, Tata Group made a major investment in Air India’s fleet renewal where widebody aircraft such as Airbus A350, Boeing 777X, and Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner are expected to be added. In addition, the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX families cater to the narrowbody segment,
