Lufthansa will incorporate five CRJ1000 from CityJet for the Summer 2024 season. The 100-seat aircraft will be based in Frankfurt starting from late March and will operate services on behalf of Lufthansa until late October.

The Irish airline has an operational fleet of 25 aircraft: 21 Mitsubishi CRJ-900s and 4 CRJ-100s. The five aircraft to Lufthansa will arrive under a wet leasing arrangement, aircraft leasing with crew.

Cathal O’Connell, CityJet’s Commercial Director, said: «We are delighted to resume service on behalf of Lufthansa as we continue to develop our crew leasing business model at CityJet. This year, we will have a total of seventeen aircraft under contract with Lufthansa and SAS Scandinavian Airlines, and we look forward to further development with our current and new customers in the future”.

In 2023, CityJet operated four aircraft on behalf of airlines within the Lufthansa Group: two for Brussels Airlines and two for Lufthansa.

In recent years, the company has provided services to many major European airlines, including Aer Lingus, Air France, Brussels Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, and SAS. Currently, CityJet has over 600 employees, 80% of whom are based in Scandinavia in Copenhagen and Stockholm, with its headquarters at Dublin Airport and a planning unit in London.

CityJet recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and became a part of SARA (Strategic Alliance of Regional Airlines) in October 2023, making it part of Europe’s largest regional aviation platform in cooperation with Air Nostrum from Spain, an associated airline that also celebrates thirty years.
