Vietnam Airlines to ground 12 aircraft due tue engine issues

Yet another airline is suffering from Pratt & Whitney engine problems and will stop flying a dozen of its jets.

The problems with the Pratt & Whitney PW1000 series engines now affect at least 12 Airbus A321neo jets of Vietnam Airlines, the flag carrier of Vietnam.

As reported by our affiliated media Aeroin, Vietnam Airlines CEO, Le Hong Ha, informed VN Express that 20% of its domestic fleet will not be able to fly due to a lack of components or problems that occurred in the PW1100G engines of the A321neo.

Today, Vietnam Airlines has 20 A321neo jets, which together with the A321ceo perform all the company’s domestic flights. The low-cost competitor VietJet Air also has airplanes of the same model and even in a larger number, but so far has not been affected.

These problems with the PW engines also affect some Brazilian jets Embraer E190/E195-E2 as well as the A320neo, with one company having to shut its doors because the majority of its planes could not fly due to the same problem.
