Lufthansa begins flying the Airbus A380 to Washington-Dulles for the first time with nonstop service from Munich. The airline plans to reactivate all eight of its superjumbos by 2025.
On May 31, the Airbus A380 registered D-AIML operated flight LH 414: the aircraft took off from Munich Airport at 16:57 local time. It landed at Dulles International Airport at 19:15, after eight hours and 18 minutes.
Recently, Lufthansa reactivated a sixth Airbus A380 which is registered “D-AIMB”, christened “München” and is 14.4 years old, out of storage at Teruel Airport and headed to Lufthansa Technik’s Manila facility for intensive maintenance. The active superjumbos are D-AIMC, D-AIMK, D-AIML, D-AIMM and D-AIMN.
The German airline‘s A380s also fly to New York JFK, Boston, and Los Angeles this summer. The U.S. capital is the second long-haul destination served by Lufthansa Group’s four main carriers (Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and SWISS) and its transatlantic partner operates to four of its main hubs (Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Brussels).
