The Dominican low-cost airline Arajet received its tenth Boeing 737 MAX 8 (registration HI1101), which was named «Los Haitises» and features a special design with the Dominican flag painted along its fuselage, highlighted as «a way to emphasize Dominican identity and the construction of the new regional air hub.»
“This tenth aircraft is special because it will increase the number of connections we make with the continent and reaffirms our commitment to all of Latin America to democratize the skies and connect all our countries with low prices, the best quality, and the warmth of Dominican service,” said Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO and founder of Arajet.
“The dream of making the Dominican Republic the new hub of the continent is becoming a reality thanks to the more than 400 direct collaborators we have; a work that has been internationally recognized when in 2023 we were awarded as the best new airline in the world at the World Aviation Summit, and that should fill all Dominicans with pride,” continued the executive.
Arajet already flies to 23 destinations in 16 countries across the Americas, and hopes to enter the United States this year once the Dominican Republic finalizes the open skies agreement with that country. This will be key to their growth.
The name «Los Haitises» comes from the Taíno language, meaning high land or land of mountains, and is one of the «most beautiful corners of the republic,» as defined by Pacheco Méndez.
The other nine Arajet Boeing 737 MAX aircraft have been named after other regions of the Dominican Republic: Pico Duarte, Valle Nuevo, Jaragua, Ojos Indígenas, Los Tres Ojos, Isla Saona, Lago Enriquillo, Laguna Redonda, and Bahía de las Águilas.
Arajet’s network in the Dominican Republic includes Santo Domingo (its hub), Punta Cana, and Santiago de los Caballeros, and across the continent it serves Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, Lima, Guayaquil, Quito, Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, San José-CR, Guatemala City, San Salvador, Mexico City, Cancún, Aruba, Curaçao, Kingston, Montreal, Toronto, and St. Maarten.
