Peru’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Raúl Pérez Reyes, has visited Pisco International Airport, emphasizing that it is operational and its facilities are ready for the commencement of regular flights.
Currently, no airline operates regular flights at the airport. The airport is mainly used for tourist flights over the Nazca Lines, instructional flights, military aircraft, and private planes. With the growth of the aviation market in Peru, the government aims to change this situation. Thus, there is a significant opportunity to resume flights from Pisco to Cusco and other regional destinations.
To promote commercial flights at the airport, the government will issue an Emergency Decree allowing for amendments to concessionaire contracts. This will facilitate the acquisition of boarding bridges, towing vehicles, and other necessary equipment, thereby expanding the operational capacity of the terminal.

During his visit, the minister toured the departure lounge, security control system, immigration, and the runway, among other facilities. “This airport is crucial as an alternate terminal to Jorge Chávez International Airport. It has a runway ready to receive large aircraft, and our goal is to encourage airlines to operate regular flights here,” detailed the head of the MTC. “We will coordinate with the concessionaire Aeropuertos del Perú to prioritize improvements at this airport,” Pérez Reyes mentioned.
In addition to the measures announced by Minister Pérez Reyes, two key projects are being developed for the rehabilitation and modernization of Pisco International Airport. In September of this year, the execution of the rehabilitation and improvement of the runway, taxiways, and aircraft apron will be called, thus ensuring efficiency and safety in operations. Furthermore, a project is underway to modernize the passenger terminal, expanding its operational capacity and improving connectivity.
