More airlines seek to join Oneworld alliance

Oneworld is the world’s third-largest global airline alliance, comprised of 15 airlines that together have a fleet of more than 3,200 aircraft, operating in some 1,000 airports in 170 countries, handling around 490 million passengers a year in more than 13,000 air operations. As market consolidation grows, more operators aim to join the alliance to extend their flight network.

This year, the alliance gained a new member: Fiji Airways. Its fleet is made up of Boeing 737 NG and 737 MAX aircraft and Airbus A330 and A350, and it also offers long-haul services to Japan, Singapore, Canada and the United States. As part of its integration into Oneworld, the airline announced non-stop flights to Dallas/Fort Worth (American Airlines hub) on Airbus A350-900 starting in June 2025.

After obtaining government approvals, Alaska Airlines Group acquired Hawaiian Airlines, the latter of which plans to join Oneworld in 2026. Hawaiian Airlines has a fleet of Airbus A321neo and A333 and Boeing 717 and 787. The airline’s integration into the alliance will offer connectivity to northwest Asia, Australia, the South Pacific and America.

Another upcoming airline looking to join the alliance is Oman Air, the third Middle Eastern airline to join Oneworld, alongside Qatar Airways and Royal Jordanian. It has its hub in Muscat and services Europe, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, and has a fleet of Boeing 737s and 787s.

The new airline STARLUX plans to join Oneworld to boost its international connectivity. The Taiwanese airline has begun non-stop services to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle-Tacoma, which are the base of Alaska Airlines, an airline belonging to Oneworld. Other members such as American Airlines, British Airways, and Qantas would support STARLUX in growing in markets in the United States, Europe, and Australia.
