Aeropuertos Argentina Cargas (AAC) inaugurated a new Perishable Goods Control Station at Ezeiza International Airport. This facility, designed to ensure the sanitary quality of food exported to the United States, aims to improve operational processes and meet the stringent standards required by international markets.
The project, which required an investment of USD 1.5 million, was carried out in collaboration with the National Service for Agrifood Health and Quality (SENASA), the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Committee of Producers and Exporters of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables to the U.S. (COPEXEU). It also included the participation of the General Customs Directorate and the Airport Security Police.
Features of the new station
The station covers an area of 300 m², with 220 m² of covered space, and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a motorized gate for hermetic truck docking, air curtains, sanitary modules, and segregated spaces to ensure airtight conditions during inspections. According to AAC, the facility includes eight inspection stations and separates the processes for receiving and dispatching samples, reducing the risk of cross-contamination.
This facility will allow products to be inspected before entering the Export Perishables Chamber, optimizing operational flow and ensuring that food complies with U.S. sanitary requirements.
During the inauguration, Federico Laborde, AAC’s General Manager, stated, «This is an ecosystem we have built together. It is the result of global teamwork, and we are proud to see the goodwill and commitment of everyone involved to exceed our customers’ expectations»
Roberto Gregori, President of COPEXEU, highlighted the project’s importance for regional economies. «This investment represents a contribution to production and the growth of regional economies» he affirmed.
From SENASA, its president, Pablo Cortese, emphasized that the new station will «meet increasingly stringent market standards, thereby benefiting the country’s economy»
Agustín Tejeda Rodríguez, Undersecretary for Agrifood Markets, added, «This project aligns with the goal of positioning Argentina as a leading, reliable provider of food produced with the highest quality standards»
Lastly, U.S. Ambassador Marc R. Stanley highlighted, «Our program facilitates the export of 40,000 tons of fruit to the U.S. annually. Since 1983, USDA APHIS, SENASA, and COPEXEU have ensured safe exports. We look forward to continuing to expand our trade and cooperation»
The station, as emphasized by Aeropuertos Argentina Cargas, aims to strengthen the country’s airport infrastructure to position Argentina as a benchmark in international food trade.
