Finnair is advancing the process of refurbishing the cabins of its Embraer E190 aircraft to enhance customer comfort on regional services. The first Embraer with a modernized cabin is already completed, and it is estimated that the fleet of twelve aircraft will have their cabins updated by the spring of 2026. Seven aircraft will be refurbished during the winter season of 2024/2025, and the remaining units will be updated in the winter season of 2025/2026.

The Embraer fleet is used for most of Finnair’s destinations within Finland and for short routes in Northern and Central Europe.

«We wanted to create a harmonious, fresh, and welcoming travel environment for our customers, with dark blue and gray colors and a touch of wood laminate, familiar elements from our long-haul aircraft. The renovated cabin will feature two new seat types. The seats in rows 1 to 9 offer a bit more comfort thanks to their design and padding. The seats in the first rows recline slightly, while from row 10 onwards, the seats do not recline. The service concept will remain unchanged in relation to the cabin renovation,» said Eerika Enne, Director of Inflight Customer Experience.

The seating capacity remains unchanged, with 100 seats on the Embraer E190 aircraft. Regarding the cabin update, the lighting has also been upgraded with LED technology.

One of the purposes of the Embraer cabin refurbishment has been to reduce the aircraft’s weight, as this translates into reduced fuel consumption and, consequently, lower carbon dioxide emissions.
