As part of the year-end season, the Civil Aviation Authority and Avianca have issued warnings about the increase in scam cases related to the purchase of airline tickets through unofficial channels. These alerts come amidst growing demand for flights, as the Colombian aviation sector prepares with the implementation of the Christmas Mission operation.

Recommendations to avoid fraud

In light of the proliferation of fake websites, fraudulent social media profiles, and malicious text messages, Civil Aviation Authority and Avianca stress the importance of making purchases only through official channels, such as airline websites and certified travel agency applications.

  • Always purchase through official channels such as www.avianca.com or verified mobile applications.
  • Be cautious of extremely low prices on social media or unofficial chat groups.
  • Protect your personal and banking information; do not share it through emails, text messages, or unsolicited calls.
  • Avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links.

Avianca emphasized that purchasing tickets through unauthorized channels may result in their invalidation and even lead to legal consequences for users involved in fraudulent transactions.

With the Christmas Mission operation, the Colombian aviation sector aims to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations during one of the most critical seasons of the year. Between November 2024 and January 2025, a significant increase in passenger traffic is expected on both domestic and international routes.

In a recent meeting, the Civil Aviation Authority and airlines highlighted the implementation of infrastructure improvements, including work at airports such as El Dorado, San Andrés, and Cúcuta, as well as the coordination of slots and air traffic services.

The increased confidence in air transport is reflected in the growth of passenger traffic. During the October 2024 school break, more than 3.2 million people traveled through Colombian airports, marking a 13% increase compared to the same period last year. This trend is expected to continue during the Christmas season, with destinations such as Cartagena, Medellín, and San Andrés leading national preferences.

Additional recommendations for travelers

The Civil Aviation Authority encourages passengers to check the status of airports through official social media and confirm flight schedules with airlines. Additionally, they remind travelers of the importance of carrying the required documentation, especially for those traveling with minors.

With preventive measures, a coordinated approach, and improved infrastructure, the Colombian aviation sector aims to provide a safe and reliable experience for all travelers this holiday season.
