Volotea unveiled its new expansion plan for its Bordeaux base for 2025, which includes the addition of five new destinations. The airline has been operating from the capital of Nouvelle-Aquitaine for eleven years, and with this expansion, it will offer a network of 35 destinations across eight countries.
The new cities that Volotea will connect from Bordeaux are Marseille, France; Malta; Bari and Alghero, Italy; and Alicante, Spain. These new routes join the recently launched connections to Barcelona, Menorca, and Charleroi, providing more options for customers at its base.
Starting in May 2025, Volotea will base a new Airbus A320 in Bordeaux, bringing the total to three aircraft. With this fleet expansion, the airline is expected to launch a record annual offer of 1.2 million seats, a 38% increase compared to 2024.
The arrival of the new aircraft will enable the creation of 30 new direct jobs, raising the total staff count to 110 employees. Additionally, it will generate 630 indirect jobs, highlighting the significant economic and social impact of Volotea in the region.
Volotea France Manager, Gilles Gosselin, stated, «We are delighted to announce the opening of 5 new routes and the arrival of a new Airbus A320. Volotea is not only expanding its network but also asserting its leadership in Bordeaux, becoming the airline with the largest number of destinations. We are strengthening our commitment to connecting Bordeaux residents with France and Europe while actively supporting the local economy through the creation of dozens of direct and indirect jobs.»
«Volotea is not just an airline; it is a driver of regional dynamism and a trusted partner for passengers and the Gironde community. This development would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Bordeaux Airport and its teams, with whom we have worked for over 10 years in a spirit of trust and collaboration. Together, we actively contribute to showcasing the region and supporting its local vitality,» Gosselin added.
Details of the new flights from Bordeaux

Volotea concludes 2024 in France with a historic offer of nearly 7.5 million seats, which will increase to 8 million seats in 2025. The opening of new routes strengthens the region’s connectivity and exceeds 270 routes in France.
Cyrielle Clément, Route Development Manager at Bordeaux Airport, stated, «The arrival of this new aircraft based in Bordeaux marks an important step in Volotea’s development at the airport. We work closely with our partner to offer destinations that meet the needs of our region.»
«The 5 new destinations planned for 2025, bringing the number of direct routes offered to 35, perfectly illustrate this ambition. This represents a 38% increase in seats compared to the previous year and a 71% increase compared to 2019. This reinforcement of Volotea’s base in Bordeaux is also a strong signal for the economic and tourism dynamism of our region,» she added.
