Virgin Australia resumes its long-haul flights in partnership with Qatar Airways, offering Australian customers more travel options with access to over 100 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. At the end of November, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission granted temporary authorization to the partnership between the two airlines.
The company has started selling tickets for flights from Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth to Doha starting in June 2025, with a connection to Melbourne expected to commence later next year. These services will be operated by the Australian airline using Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, featuring the QSuites product in Business Class.
The alliance between Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways, pending final regulatory approval, positions Virgin Australia to compete strongly in the international travel market while simultaneously enhancing its strategic position domestically, offering greater competition, improved connectivity, and a broader range of options for customers.
Not only do travelers benefit; the new Virgin Australia services also promote tourism, employment, and Australian businesses. It is projected that over the next five years, due to the increase in visitors, more than 3 billion dollars will be injected into the economy, generating more jobs and opportunities along the way.
