Wingo is preparing to meet the growing demand of the end-of-year holiday high season with an extensive offering that includes the launch of two new international routes and a significant increase in its operations to the San Andrés archipelago.
During this season, which runs from December 1, 2024, to mid-January 2025, the airline expects to transport over 400,000 passengers across its network of 36 routes, supported by an offering of 450,000 seats spread across 2,500 flights.
This operations plan includes significant increases in frequencies to high-demand destinations in both domestic and international markets and the launch of new connections from Medellín to Curacao and San José, Costa Rica.
Since October 28, Wingo, in collaboration with the San Andrés Governor’s Office and Civil Aviation Authority, has added six additional weekly frequencies to the island, representing a monthly increase of 9,000 seats.
- San Andrés-Barranquilla-San Andrés: Increased from 4 weekly flights to daily service with 7 weekly frequencies. Wingo is the only airline connecting these two cities.
- San Andrés-Cartagena-San Andrés: Increased to 4 weekly flights, and starting December 11, it will offer daily flights. On this route, Wingo competes directly with LATAM, which operates 12 weekly frequencies.
Governor Nicolás Gallardo Vázquez celebrated this expansion, highlighting its importance for tourism and the economy of San Andrés. “We invite all Colombians to visit our archipelago, with its beaches, the sea of seven colors, and the third-largest coral reef in the world, and we welcome those who will arrive thanks to this expansion,” he stated.
New routes from Medellín and year-end goals
On December 18, Wingo will launch the Medellín-Curacao and Medellín-San José routes, each with two weekly frequencies from José María Córdova Airport. This move strengthens the airline’s international expansion strategy, which will also see increased frequencies on other high-demand routes such as Bogotá-San José, Bogotá-Aruba, and Medellín-Punta Cana.
With a projected average load factor of 90% and a goal of closing the year with more than 3 million passengers transported, Wingo aims to position itself as a key player in the Colombian and international markets.
“We are ready to be the most relevant low-cost airline this end-of-year holiday high season,” stated Jorge Jiménez, Wingo’s Vice President of Commercial and Planning.
