Every year the charter company PrivateFly, based in the United Kingdom, conducts a survey to its users about which landing and / or take-off was most exciting, the kind that thrills when seen through the plane window, or which was the most picturesque.

The vote took place in February and March, ahead of the current COVID-19 situation around the world, and more than 6,000 frequent fliers and aviation enthusiasts participated in the survey. In the vote there were 129 airports to choose from.

It is a good way to encourage the passenger when choose a destination since the letter of introduction of the place always influences a lot.

Now we will focus on Latin America and the Caribbean, but in a future article we will show the most spectacular in the world.

10. Los Roques Airport, Venezuela

It serves the most populated city in the Archipelago, Los Roques. Surrounded by crystal clear turquoise waters and fine white sands. It is not one of the most visited places in the world, so is a hidden gem.

9. Cyril E. King Airport, Saint Thomas

It is the busiest airport in the United States Virgin Islands, it is part of the Lesser Antilles. Surrounded by cliffs, mountains and the Caribbean Sea itself, it is a dream place not only for passengers but also for pilots who sees it in the front row.

8. Congonhas Airport, Brazil

It is one of the most important airports in Brazil, serving the metropolis of São Paulo. It is right in the middle of the mega-city. Several pilots have considered it as landing on an aircraft carrier given its elevation with respect to the infrastructure around it.

7. Ushuaia International Airport, Argentina

At the End of the World as many consider it. Built on a small peninsula surrounded by the Beagle Channel with the imposing Andes Mountains in the background. It is a favorite destination even for pilots with a very beautiful approach, as well as the picturesque airport terminal.

6. Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, Saba

It has one of the shortest commercial runways in the world, only 400 meters long, surrounded by cliffs and high hills. It serves the Island of Saba which is part of the Dutch Caribbean islands. The most common aircraft operating at the airport are those with the short runway takeoff and landing capability, called STOL.

5. Gustaf III Airport, Saint Barth

Apparently enthusiasts like challenging airports. It serves the Caribbean Island of Saint Barthélemy or Saint Barth, which is part of the Overseas Islands of France, southeast of Saint Maarten. The short runway begins near a gentle incline that then ends at the edge of a beach. The descent on the approach is steep, prior to landing they must fly over near a roundabout and at the last moment the aircraft straightens up and lands. Without a doubt, an airport that provokes adrenaline.

4. Nassau International Airport, Bahamas

As one might suspect, the Caribbean caught everyone’s eye, being the Bahamas one of the most picturesque places in the region. The country’s main airport, despite being hit by hurricanes, maintains its beauty surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea.

3. Rio de Janeiro International Airport (Galeão), Brazil

Entering the TOP 3 is the Galeao International Airport that serves Rio de Janeiro, located on an island in the middle of Guanabara Bay.

2. Queen Beatrix International Airport, Aruba

At position number two is Aruba’s scenic main Airport. In addition to the waters that bathe the coast of the island when approaching the airport, it is also possible to view the nearby cruise ships.

1. Princess Juliana International Airport, St. Maarten

It’s unimaginable that St. Maarten wasn’t on this list. It is one of the favorites for aeronautical enthusiasts and tourists. The runway is a few meters from one of the main beaches of the island, Maho Beach, therefore they pass very close to people on the beach and generate a spectacular sensation when approaching.

Are you satisfied with the list? What do you think are other spectacular airports in the region?
