As part of the celebration of its ninth anniversary, Viva Air today officially announced its redenomination as only «Viva», under a new corporate image that, in its simplicity, seeks to reinforce its position in Colombia, its market of origin, and launch itself fully in the battle to conquer the low-cost segment in the region while the industry rebuilds after the pandemic.
The growth plan also includes having the lowest unit cost per passenger in the world and continuing to strengthen its recently established hub at Rionegro José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) with the launch of 15 new international routes in the next 3 years, and thus transforming that city into the new axis of air connections on the continent.
This year Viva inaugurated four new international routes that link Medellín with Cancun, Mexico City and Orlando, and Bogotá with Mexico City. In this way, its network in 2021 will cover 26 routes between 12 destinations in Colombia and seven routes to five destinations in Peru, Mexico and the United States. The subsidiary in Peru operates seven domestic routes.
«Firm with our promise to promote air inclusion, by allowing Colombians to fly more thanks to the benefits of the Low Cost model, we announce the launch of our renewed brand that will now be just Viva. This change represents the next step for our airline and the commitment to all Colombians so that they can fly more, and to more destinations, paying less,» commented Félix Antelo, president & CEO of the Group.
«Nine years ago we were born as an airline determined to transform air transport in Colombia. Today we can say that thanks to the committed work and trust of millions of Colombians, Viva projects a prominent future, in which we will continue with our expansion plan in the domestic and international market. Our commitment to invigorate the airline sector in the country is stronger than ever,» he added.
In its nine years, Viva carried more than 28 million passengers and today operates a fleet of 21 A320s aircraft.
