The Mexican government will work with the FAA to recover category 1
The Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC for its initials in Spanish) of Mexico and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) signed last Friday 23 an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding that will enable the second to provide technical assistance on civil aviation to the Mexican government.
Thus, the FAA will assign a group of specialists who will carry out visits to the country (beginning in August) through which they will provide technical assistance. With this, it will seek to collaborate in the recovery of Category One in matters of operational safety of Mexican civil aviation.
In a statement, the Ministry of Communications and Transportation – the body on which the AFAC depends – indicated that «the recovery of Category One is a priority, in the shortest possible time,» therefore, the work to solve what is observed by the FAA will not be stopped under any circumstances in order to guarantee certainty to both the aeronautical industry and the population.
«The work to be carried out during the visits involves a technical review, to determine if the safety supervision by the AFAC complies with the minimum standards required in Annexes 1, 6 and 8 of the Chicago Convention. Derived from the work of the experts, they will give the aeronautical authority of our country a report of their findings and their recommendations for improvement,» they added from the SCT.
