Peru Allows Flights to Another 16 International Destinations

Less than a month after the restart of international scheduled flights in Peru, the President Martín Vizcarra announced that as of November the country is expanding connectivity with international destinations with up to 8 flight hours.

“Starting in November, the radius of permitted international flights will be expanded. International flights lasting up to 4 hours are now authorized. We are increasing the allowed flight time of up to 8 hours on international flights,» said Vizcarra, adding «the Ministry of Transport, obviously, will coordinate to implement this decision».

The President warned that some of the passengers who entered the country since October 5, did so without the required negative COVID-19 test, so from now on, the checks on arrival will be stricter with the entry of foreigners, as published by the newspaper Gestión de Perú.

“Thousands of passengers have come in this season when international travel has been opened and a few dozens, have entered without molecular testing. We will not allow it. We are going to be much stricter and we are even going to coordinate with the airlines”, he announced.

The new destinations enabled as of November will be: Havana (Cuba), Montego Bay (Jamaica), Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), San José (Costa Ricaa), San Salvador, Cartagena (Colombia), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Sao Paulo (Brazil), Brasilia (Brazil), Porto Alegre (Brazil) and Foz de Iguazú(Brazil) .

Buenos Aires, Rosario, Mendoza, Córdoba and Tucumán are subject to the opening of the borders of Argentina, as soon as the country allows the entry of foreigners, flights will be scheduled, which could happen at any time.

Destinations to the United States such as Los Angeles, New York, Orlando, Miami, Houston, Atlanta and Mexico, which includes Mexico City and Cancun, are under evaluation.

On Monday the president of Peru had said that the decision to expand new international routes would be evaluated in the Council of Ministers. The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism said on Tuesday that the Government is looking for connectivity with the United States and Mexico, which is currently in full evaluation, but new announcements are not ruled out in the coming days.
