Cubana de Aviación must suspend domestic flights due to the condition of its narrow-body aircraft. This occurs, however, three days after the announcement of new air routes within Cuba, to be precise between Havana and Holguin, in addition to destinations such as Nueva Gerona and Santiago de Cuba.
According to our partner site Aeroin, the flights in question do not appear anymore in the reservation system of the airline’s official website. It only offers promotions between Cuba and Mexico or Colombia.

This is what Luis Ladrón de Guevara, Cuba’s Minister of Transportation, said in televised statements in this respect.
Recently, a conflict with IATA (International Air Transport Association) was added, since the organization informed travel agencies that Cubana de Aviación would no longer participate in Spain’s BSP (Bank Settlement Plan) payment compensation mechanism. Therefore, they will no longer be able to issue tickets and manage refunds on behalf of Cubana itself.
Cubana de Aviación’s current fleet consists of six Antonov AN-158s, two ATR 42-500s, one ATR 72-200, two Embraer E110s and one Ilyushin Il-96. The latter model is used for long-haul flights, mainly to destinations such as Spain and Argentina.
