Iberojet increases its operations in Cancun and Punta Cana

Iberojet is increasing its presence in the Caribbean. To meet Christmas and New Year’s Eve demand during December, the Spanish vacation airline will increase its flights from Madrid (MAD) to Mexico and the Dominican Republic with special fares.

From Mexico

Iberojet will increase its operation from Mexico (MEX)  to Cancun (CUN) to five weekly flights from November, and from December will offer daily flights.

From the Dominican Republic

From December it will increase its operation to Punta Cana (PUJ) from three to 11 weekly flights, this represents more than 250% over its current offer.

The flights will be operated with Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft.

Iberojet plans to incorporate an extra Airbus A330-300 under a leasing agreement to meet the growing passenger demand. In addition to its operations in Cancun (CUN) and Punta Cana (PUJ), the airline will has flights to San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO), and Havana, Cuba (HAV).

Mexico and the Dominican Republic are the long-haul markets with the highest recovery from Madrid-Barajas (MAD), according to data obtained by Aviacionline through AENA statistics. Passenger traffic from Barajas to Cancun (CUN) and Punta Cana (PUJ) in July and August was 54,765 and 50,769 respectively. This represents a recovery of 52.88% and 75.92% to pre-pandemic levels.

According to the data obtained by Aviacionline through the Cirium platform, the number of seats that will be offered for December 2021 from Madrid (MAD) to Cancun (CUN) and Punta Cana (PUJ) will be 14,213 and 13,376 respectively, this represents an increase of 11.7% and 7.1% over 2019 levels.

In long-haul flights from Madrid (MAD) to popular destinations in the Caribbean, Iberojet competes against other airline operators such as Air Europa, Wamos Air, and World2fly in most of the destinations currently offered by the company. With the addition of its new Airbus A350-900s, the airline has increased the supply of seats on its most in-demand routes.
