As of January 8 and until the end of October 2022, after reaching an agreement with the Spanish tour operator SamaTravel, Iberia will operate a weekly flight to Egypt alternating between Cairo and Luxor.
Such operations, which will be carried out as charter flights, seek to channel the rising tourist demand to Egypt, since, the company pointed out, the virus has had little incidence there.
«From the moment we dared to be the first in the world to resume charter operations to Luxor, we have noticed how the demand has been growing day by day. Most of our flights have been full in the last few months, to the point that there have even been waiting lists. As a result, we decided that we could not fail to meet the requests of operators and travel agencies, and we have made a strong commitment to expanding the offer to our star destination, with the privilege of doing so hand in hand with Iberia,» said Mohamed Ali, General Manager of SamaTravel.
For his part, Guillermo Gonzalez Vallina, Iberia’s Sales Director for Spain, Portugal, and North Africa, said: «We are very pleased to fly to Egypt again, a destination we were planning to return to in 2020 but had to be temporarily suspended due to the pandemic. Now, thanks to SamaTravel, we are going to carry out this charter operation that we are confident will be a success. We at Iberia look forward to offering customers a magnificent experience during their vacations.»
The Madrid – Cairo flight (IB2870) will depart from Madrid on Saturdays at 10:00 to arrive in Cairo at 15:50. The return as IB871 will be at 17:00, landing at Barajas at 21:20.
The operation to Luxor will take off from Madrid at 9:00 to arrive in the Egyptian city at 15:50 and return at 17:00, landing at Barajas at 21:20.
Both destinations will alternate every Saturday, while Iberia highlighted that the schedules allow convenient connections to and from other destinations in Spain such as Barcelona, A Coruña, Asturias, Vigo, and Bilbao, among others.
