As part of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR 2022), a new meeting between Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, and Iberia’s Director of Commercial, Network Development and Alliances, María Jesús López Solás, has strengthened their commitment to continue contributing to the promotion of Mexico as a destination through the Spanish airline’s European network.
Iberia has always been committed to the strategic Mexican market. According to OAG reports between April 2018 and March 2019, the route between Mexico City (MEX) and Madrid (MAD) was the most profitable in Latin America with revenues of USD 238,947,114, where the Spanish airline led the market.
Mexico was one of Iberia’s fastest recovering long-haul markets, and as demand intensifies, the airline has increased capacity. In September 2021 it increased its operations to two daily flights and from April it will offer 17 weekly frequencies that will be operated by the modern Airbus A350-900 with a capacity of 348 seats: 31 in Business Class, 24 Premium Economy and 293 in Economy Class.
The increase of this route will strengthen the flow of travelers and tourism in the transatlantic sector, in addition to connecting Mexico with the more than 90 destinations to which Iberia operates in Europe and Spain.
