Nuevo Leon’s main airport handled a total of 6,975,309 domestic passengers, representing a 71.5% recovery from pre-pandemic levels. The largest airline in the domestic market at Monterrey (MTY) was Viva Aerobus since the company registered a market share of 65.46% of total operations at the air terminal.

Domestic vacation destinations such as Cancun (CUN) and Puerto Vallarta (PVR) showed a positive recovery trend, in contrast to other traditional markets such as Mexico City (MEX) and Guadalajara (GDL), which reached between 60% and 70% of pre-pandemic levels.
mty_askRelating to international traffic, 1,294,525 passengers were transported, representing a significant recovery of 91.2% over 2019. The cross-border market to Texas saw the biggest boom: destinations such as Dallas (DFW) and San Antonio (SAT) exceeded 2019 levels; Houston (IAH) almost restored its pre-pandemic capacity, and new destinations such as McAllen (MFE) and Harlingen (HRL) were established.
Monterrey_EstadisticasViva Aerobus is the largest domestic operator of international flights with a 46.4% market share in ASK, while American Airlines and United Airlines were the largest foreign carriers. Much of its recovery was due to strong demand to Texas.

Airlines like Delta and Aeromexico have considerably reduced their international offerings: the airline of the eagle’s knight suspended its operations to the United States during 2021, as a consequence of its financial restructuring.
During December last year, Aeromexico reconnected Monterrey (MTY) to Madrid (MAD) after more than a decade of the last operation. The Mexican airline started with a three-weekly flight schedule in Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, also serving 2,639 passengers and moving more than 66 tons of cargo in 13 air operations in 2021.

As part of its expansion plan, Aeromar launched for the first time its international flights from Monterrey (MTY): the first destination was McAllen, Texas (MFE), operated with ATR aircraft.
