2021 ended with some news for Peruvian aviation in terms of airport infrastructure.
There has been not only news about the long-awaited and much-needed expansion of Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima, but also the new Chincheros International Airport project in Cusco.
The Peruvian government has already initiated the procedures and other measures required for the expansion of the Cajamarca and Pucallpa airports, by approving the execution of the expropriation of the affected lands.
Major General FAP Armando Revoredo Iglesias» Airport
The «Mayor General FAP Armando Revoredo Iglesias» Airport is located north of Cajamarca, in the district of Baños del Inca, province and department of Cajamarca.
It has a runway 2,500 meters long by 45 meters wide; a four-story Control Tower with a height of 12.70 meters; a single passenger terminal; 2 parking spaces on a 160 meters long by 80 meters wide apron, which is for small narrow-body aircraft (Airbus A319, Airbus A320 or Boeing 737).
The airport is currently administered by the company «Aeropuertos del Peru» (AdP), a private firm that obtained the concession for the airport from the First Group of Provinces on December 10, 2006.
In 2020, AdP awarded the engineering studies for the execution of the runway, taxiway, and apron renovation works, as well as the design of the airport’s perimeter fence.
The construction works will require an investment of USD 38.6 million.
At the end of 2021, the Peruvian government approved payment of USD 23,400 to compensate the affected people for the expropriation of land in favor of the Cajamarca airport expansion.
Following this approval, which will be executed in the first days of 2022, the Cajamarca airport expansion project will be initiated. Construction works are expected to begin at the end of this year.
Capitán FAP David Abensur Rengifo» Airport
The «Capitán FAP David Abensur Rengifo» airport is located northeast of Pucallpa, in the district of Yarinacocha, province of Coronel Portillo, department of Ucayali.
It has a runway 2,800 meters long by 45 meters wide; a five-story Control Tower 14 meters high; a single passenger terminal; 4 parking spaces on a 270 meters long by 92.90 meters wide apron, which is for small narrow-body aircraft (Airbus A319, Airbus A320 or Boeing 737).
It is also in charge of Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP).

In 2018, the Ministry of Transport and Communications agreed to purchase / expropriate the affected land for the expansion project of the Pucallpa airport.
Three years later, however, the Peruvian government announced the expenditure of USD 658,900 to carry out this operation.
At the beginning of 2021, the Minister of Transport and Communications committed to complete the approval of the technical file to rehabilitate the runway and expand the perimeter fence of this air terminal, which will require an investment of USD 85 million.
Furthermore, the new passenger terminal is also close to being approved, with an approximate investment of US$200 million.
Together, these works will enhance the operating conditions of the Pucallpa airport and promote the development of the airport system in the jungle, guaranteeing safe operations and better service standards.
