Singapore Airlines launches flights between Milan and Barcelona

On January 17, Singapore Airlines will launch flights between Milan – Malpensa (MXP) and Barcelona (BCN) with three weekly operations on Airbus A350-900s with 253 seats in three classes.

The airline recently obtained from the competent authorities, its fifth freedom rights for this segment. In addition to this service, the airline offers another intra-European flight between Copenhagen (CPH) and Rome (FCO).

In 2019 Singapore Airlines mobilized a total of 68,629 passengers from Singapore (SIN) to Barcelona (BCN) being the airline’s only destination in Spain, and to Milan – Malpensa (MXP) it handled 122,254.

According to data obtained by Aviacionline through Aena Statistics indicate that in 2019 between Barcelona (BCN) and Milan (including Malpensa and Bergamo) 1,302,157 passengers were mobilized.

Singapore Airlines will be the only traditional operator in this market sector where it will compete against low-cost airlines that connect the Catalan capital with Italy’s main financial center. Easyjet offers flights from Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN), Ryanair from Bergamo (BGY) and Malpensa (MXP) and Vueling from Malpensa (MXP).

  • Singapore – Milan Malpensa Flight SQ378 SIN 23:45 – MXP 05:55+1 – three weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • Milan Malpensa – Barcelona Flight SQ378 MXP 07:15 – BCN 11:50 – three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
  • Barcelona – Milan Malpensa Flight SQ379 BCN 10:10 – MXP 11:50 – three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
  • Milan Malpensa – Singapore Flight SQ379 MXP 13:10 – BCN 08:05+1 – three weekly flights on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Ticket sales between Milan and Barcelona are available until March 26, 2022, according to the airline’s booking system.

Singapore Airlines has been offering flights to Barcelona (BCN) and Milan Malpensa (MXP) for 15 years. Spain and Italy are currently part of the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) program that allows quarantine-free travel to Singapore, although Italian authorities recently placed travel restrictions on travel to the Southeast Asian nation.

The carrier currently offers multiple 5th freedom routes in the transatlantic and transpacific market that include:

  • Tokyo Narita (NRT) – Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Hong Kong (HKG) – San Francisco (SFO)
