The company reached the milestone of 100 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft with fully renovated cabins at LATAM MRO, San Carlos (SP).
Particularly in the case of LATAM Brazil, the interiors of 50 aircraft were redesigned. By 2023, another 86 aircraft are to undergo the same retrofitting process, of which 44 are owned by the Brazilian subsidiary and the other 42 belong to other group subsidiaries.
The project, which was resumed in June last year, involves the complete disassembly of the cabin of each unit, the replacement of all seats, cleaning, and renovation of the galley (aircraft galley), in addition to structural reinforcements for the new internal configuration.
In addition, a system called ‘in-seat power’ was installed, which guarantees a plug for each seat, as well as a system called ‘direct view’. This one consists of a camera that monitors the passenger cabin during takeoffs and landings, thus guaranteeing maximum safety.

“LATAM’s progress in the retrofit process is a reflection of the efficiency and excellence of LATAM MRO in San Carlos and the changes to our aircraft will directly benefit the flight experience of our customers, who increasingly board aircraft with more modern, pleasant, safe, comfortable and technological cabins,” explains Sebastián Acuto, Director of Fleet and Projects at LATAM Airlines Group.
As reported by our Brazilian partner site Aeroin, as a result of the replacement of all seats, the Airbus A320s will have a new configuration. This one will accommodate 180 passengers divided into 2 classes (24 in Premium Economy and 156 in Economy). Meanwhile, the A321s will be able to accommodate up to 224 passengers also divided into 2 classes (30 in Premium Economy and 194 in Economy).
It should be recalled that the project, which was announced in 2019 and is being carried out in the city of San Carlos. This is a technology center with 2 of the most important Brazilian universities. And is also the largest investment in the history of the LATAM group (approximately US$ 400 million).
