Air Lease Corporation agrees with Aeromexico for nine more Boeing 737 MAX

Air Lease Corporation (ALC) announced Friday a long-term lease agreement for nine Boeing 737 MAX aircraft with Aeromexico.

The agreement consists of two 737-8s and seven 737-9s, which are scheduled for delivery between July 2022 and August 2023, and are part of ALC’s backlog of orders with Boeing.

The airline operates four Boeing 787-9s, one Boeing 737-800, and one Boeing 737-9 from ALC, and also has two other 737 MAX backlog orders due for delivery in 2025. (Source: Ch-Aviation)

«Air Lease Corporation is Aeromexico’s largest lessor. We are pleased to expand our relationship with the airline with these nine new Boeing 737 aircraft lease locations,» said Steven Udvar-Házy, chief executive officer of Air Lease Corporation.

With this agreement, Aeromexico now has a fleet of 22 737-8s with 9 orders pending and 7 737 MAX 9s with 15 to be received. The Mexican airline is the largest operator of the 737 MAX variant in Latin America.

«Aeromexico is once again pleased to partner with ALC to help modernize our fleet with new fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly Boeing aircraft in 2022 and 2023,» said Andres Conesa, Aeromexico’s chief executive officer.

Aeromexico has recently concluded its Chapter 11 exit process, making it possible to have a new financing plan in line with the current times. The company expects to end 2022 with a fleet of 147 aircraft. Over the next five years, the company plans to invest around US$5 billion in new aircraft.

The fleet

Grupo Aeromexico’s fleet consists of five Boeing 737-700s, 36 B737-800s, 25 B737 MAX 8s, seven B737 MAX 9s, eight B787-8s, and 10 B787-9s. In addition, 43 Embraer E190s for Aeroméxico Connect. In 2021, it received 31 aircraft and will add another 22 more in the remainder of this year.
